Dalglish content with Liverpool season

Wednesday 09 May 2012

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has professed himself satisfied with his first full season back in charge at Anfield after leading the club to victory in the Carling Cup final and a first FA Cup final appearance since 2006, the BBC has reported.

The Reds can finish no higher than seventh in the Premier League but the manager has pointed to the League Cup triumph and the return to European competition it brings as evidence the club can be happy with their campaign.

Dalglish said: “We've got a bit of silverware back in the cupboard after six years; we're back in Europe at the first time of asking. We were near to winning the FA Cup final. Not a bad first season.

Liverpool ended last season in sixth place, an improvement on the seventh of the year before but well adrift of the Champions League places. In 2010-11 Liverpool were dumped out of the League Cup on penalties by Northampton Town and the FA Cup by Manchester United in the third round while this season Dalglish oversaw a penalty shootout victory over Cardiff City in the final of the former tournament but also a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in the final of the latter.
