Chelsea boss Di Matteo has no complaints over Terry form

Thursday 10 May 2012

Chelsea interim manager Roberto Di Matteo has defended John Terry after the captain was accused of letting his form drop amid rumours he may not be part of England’s Euro 2012 squad, the BBC has reported.

The Daily Mail claimed earlier this week that Terry would be left out of the travelling party under new manager Roy Hodgson because Hodgson is unsure if he can include both Terry and Rio Ferdinand, the brother of Anton Ferdinand, the Queens Park Rangers defender currently involved in legal action against Terry. Terry denies the charge.

Di Matteo however believes Terry has been in exemplary form for his club, praising the 31-year-old’s leadership qualities as Chelsea. Di Matteo added: “John has been magnificent for us. He has been playing all the games, he has been a leader and everything you want in a captain.

Terry played as Chelsea won the FA Cup in a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Wembley on Saturday but is suspended for the Champions League final against Bayern Munich on May 19. Terry was sent off in the semi-final second-leg against Barcelona after appearing to strike Barca forward Alexis Sanchez with his knee in an off-the-ball incident.
