Arsenal and Manchester United to compete for Kagawa signing

By Andrew Tuft

Friday 11 May 2012

Arsenal will rival Manchester United for the signature of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa, the Daily Mail has reported.

The Japan international is said to be available for a cut-price £7m as he enters the final year of his contract, with Dortmund president Michael Zorc admitted earlier this month that the 23-year-old was destined to leave Germany to play in England this summer.

Kagawa has rejected the offer of a new contract to remain with the Bundesliga side having been a Dortmund player since 2010. Dortmund originally brought the player to Europe from Cerezo Osaka, capitalising on a small release clause in Kagawa’s contract with the J-League side.

In his time with Dortmund Kagawa has won two consecutive Bundesliga titles and was named in Kicker magazine’s team of the season in 2010-11. Capped 29 times by Japan, Kagawa has made 70 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 28 goals, including 16 in 41 games this season.
