Van Persie to hold Arsenal contract talks this week

The future of Arsenal captain Robin van Persie could be decided this week after the Netherlands striker revealed discussions over extending his contract would be in the coming days, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Arsenal confirmed their place in next season’s Champions League with a 3-2 victory over West Bromwich Albion wrapped up third in the Premier League for Arsene Wenger’s side, the last position to guarantee entry into the group stage. The win also ensured Arsenal cannot miss out on the Champions League if Chelsea defeat Bayern Munich in the final of this year’s competition as, if Roberto Di Matteo’s side do beat the German outfit, they would enter the Champions League next year at the expense of the side who finished fourth in the table, Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsene Wenger has previously admitted Champions League participation is vital to keep van Persie, the Telegraph adds, with Arsenal to enter tournament for the 15th consecutive season.
