Terry to test Chelsea understudies in training

Tuesday 15 May 2012

John Terry may be suspended for the Champions League final but the Chelsea captain insists he can still do his bit by ensuring the players that come in to Roberto Di Matteo’s side are fully prepared, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Terry was given a straight red card in the semi-final second leg against Barcelona for an incident involving Alexis Sanchez and joins Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires and Raul Meireles in sitting out the match against Bayern Munich, to be played in Bayern’s own Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Nonetheless Terry is still keen to play his part and has said the missing quartet can help ready the rest of the team for the contest, particularly working with the players who may be part of the side despite not having featured regularly throughout the season. Terry said: “Hopefully everyone is fit and those of us who are suspended will still have a big part to play in training and preparation.

The unavailability of Terry and Ivanovic is a particular headache for interim manager Roberto Di Matteo, who could also be without his last remaining central defenders Gary Cahill and David Luiz through injury. Both players missed the end to the Premier League season with hamstring problems, and are still rated as doubts for the Champions League final.
