Tottenham yet to seal Vertonghen deal after failing to agree a fee with Ajax

Wednesday 16 May 2012

Tottenham Hotspurs’ move for Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen has hit a delay after the two clubs could not agree on a fee, the Daily Mail has reported.

The newspaper adds that Spurs are willing to pay no more than £7m for the Belgium centre-back but his current club are holding out for £9m. Vertonghen was at White Hart Lane, with the blessing of Ajax Coach Frank de Boer, to see Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Fulham on Sunday.

The victory confirmed Spurs’ place in the top four of the Premier League but their Champions League fate remains up in the air until the outcome of Saturday’s Champions League final between Chelsea and Bayern Munich. If Chelsea are victorious then the west London side would receive the fourth Champions League qualification place awarded to the Premier League, the one that would ordinarily go to the side that finished fourth in the table.
