Delight for Oxlade-Chamberlain after Arsenal star gets England Euro 2012 call

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the Arsenal midfielder called up by Roy Hodgson for England’s Euro 2012 squad despite not having a senior international cap to his name, has revealed he is delighted to be part of the national team set-up, the Guardian has reported.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was picked as part of Hodgson’s 23 for the summer tournament, as was Arsenal teammate Theo Walcott. But Oxlade-Chamberlain expressed his surprise that he was involved, having only joined Arsenal last summer and not made his first Premier League start until February.

He said: “I'm obviously delighted. To be picked for your country at any stage is a massive honour and to be at a huge tournament like the Euros is such a bonus. I would have probably laughed if someone had told me I would be in Euro 2012 a year ago.

Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Arsenal from Southampton in summer 2011, making his first Gunners appearance in the 8-2 defeat at Manchester United in late September. Oxlade-Chamberlain scored on his first Arsenal start, in the League Cup against Shrewsbury Town, and also on his first Champions League appearance against Olympiakos eight days later. His first Premier League goals came with a brace against Blackburn Rovers in a 7-1 triumph over the relegated side in late February.
