Podolski targets trophies with Arsenal

Lukas Podolski believes he will be competing in a difficult division next year as he prepares for life in the Premier League with Arsenal, but insists he has come to England to win the title, the London Evening Standard has reported.

Podolski will join the Gunners this summer in a move from German side FC Koln, and has revealed he is not moving to the Emirates Stadium to play for third place. He said: “It won’t be easy…but I have joined to win titles and trophies - that is my target.” Arsenal have not claimed any silverware since winning the FA Cup in a penalty shootout against Manchester United in 2005. The match finished as a goalless draw and Patrick Vieira struck the decisive spot kick.

This season Arsenal finished third in the table, qualifying automatically for the Champions League group stages, but Arsene Wenger’s side were 19 points behind the two Manchester clubs at the top of the table. Arsenal were also knocked out of all three cup competitions relatively early, and lost in the League Cup final last season.
