Modric hints at Tottenham exit but will wait until after Euro 2012

Luka Modric has hinted he sees his future away from Tottenham Hotspur but will put on hold any talk of a transfer until his participation in Euro 2012 with Croatia is over, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

A year ago the saga of Modric’s proposed move to Chelsea was one of the longest-running of the summer, with Spurs eventually winning the day and keeping the midfielder at White Hart Lane in the face of incessant Chelsea interest. But the 26-year-old has suggested he is itching to play at a level higher than that currently offered by Tottenham, but will delay any discussion until later in pre-season.

Modric said: “I will decide about my future after the Euros. I will make the decision where to continue my career. I'm ready for the big tests.” Tottenham may yet be part of next season’s Champions League as, after finishing fourth in the Premier League, they must now wait on the outcome of the Champions League final on Saturday.

Ordinarily fourth place would be good enough for entry into the competition at the play-off stage, but if Chelsea defeat Bayern Munich then they would receive the last qualification spot awarded to England, pushing Tottenham into the Europa League and, the Telegraph suggests, Modric towards the exit.
