Chelsea join the Manchester clubs in race to sign Hazard

Chelsea are the latest side to be linked with a move for Lille midfielder Eden Hazard, joining Manchester City and Manchester United in the race to sign the Belgium international, ESPN has reported.

Hazard played what is largely expected to be his final game for Lille on Sunday as the former Ligue 1 champions ended the season in third place, eight points behind surprise champions Montpellier and five adrift of runners-up Paris Saint-Germain.

ESPN notes that Hazard recently said he would play in Manchester next season, although declined to specify which colour shirt he would be wearing, while he also acknowledged after Chelsea’s Champions League win on Saturday that a move to Stamford Bridge held some appeal.

A senior figure at Lille, managing director Frederic Pacquet, confirmed that Chelsea were in the running for the player’s signature, but also added that an unnamed fourth club were involved too.

Pacquet said: “Yes, I think [Chelsea are one of the interested parties]. I think to my knowledge there are four teams interested in Eden. As yet we do not know and I don’t think he has made a decision yet.
