Modric could leave Tottenham after Spurs miss out on Champions League place

Monday 21 May 2012

Luka Modric could ask to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer after the club missed out on Champions League football by virtue of Chelsea’s victory in the final of the competition, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Spurs had finished fourth in the Premier League which, ordinarily, would be enough to confirm a place in the qualifying stages of the Champions League. However, Chelsea’s triumph over Bayern Munich means they enter the tournament as holders, depriving the Premier League of its fourth qualifying spot. Tottenham will instead enter the Europa League for the second consecutive season.

The Mirror says that Modric is considering his future and will make a decision after Euro 2012, indeed quoting the Croatia international as saying: “I will decide my future after the Euros. I will make the decision where to continue my career. I am ready for the big tests.

A year ago Modric was at the centre of a protracted transfer battle as he attempted to engineer a move away from White Hart Lane and to Chelsea, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy resisting both the multi-million pound offers from the Stamford Bridge club and Modric’s repeated requests to be allowed to leave.
