Frank Lampard has rejected the suggestion that Chelsea’s Champions League victory marks the end of an era at Stamford Bridge, instead insisting that it is just the beginning of a new period of success at the club, the Belfast Telegraph has reported.

With John Terry suspended Lampard captained Chelsea in the penalty shootout win over Bayern Munich on Saturday and revealed neither he nor the club itself was truly satisfied with claiming the trophy, instead calling for Chelsea to return to winning ways on a consistent basis.

Lampard said: “The big thing for the club now is to move on, and that will happen because the owner has the desire to move on, the players want to keep going – no one wants to settle for one win.

The 33-year-old played the full 120 minutes at the Allianz Arena and scored his spot kick, pulling the tie back to 3-2 on penalties after Juan Mata missed Chelsea’s first effort and David Luiz converted the second. Ashley Cole levelled the scores following Ivica Olic’s failure to convert. Bastian Schweinsteiger then missed as well, allowing Didier Drogba to score and deliver the European Cup to Chelsea for the first time.
