Capello on Liverpool shortlist

By Andrew Tuft

Tuesday 22 May 2012

Former England manager Fabio Capello is on the shortlist to replace Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool, the Independent has reported, but the Italian is said to be no higher than third choice behind both Roberto Martinez and Andre Villas-Boas.

The newspaper adds that Capello has not yet been contacted by Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, but it is thought he would be receptive to an approach. Capello has never coached at club level in England but has extensive experience and success in Italy, with Milan, Roma and Juventus, and Spain with Real Madrid, as well as more than four years as England Head Coach. The Independent notes that Capello has long considered the position at Anfield to be one of the biggest in English football.

Capello’s time with the national team came to an end in March when he resigned following the Football Association’s decision to strip John Terry of the England captaincy after he was charged with using racist language towards Anton Ferdinand, the Queens Park Rangers defender.
