Chelsea want Falcao to replace Drogba

Chelsea will move for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao to replace Didier Drogba this summer, the Daily Mail has reported, having plumped for the Columbian over Napoli’s Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain of Real Madrid.

According to the Mail Drogba will leave Stamford Bridge for Shanghai Shenua when his contract expires. The Ivorian’s departure will leave a gap in Chelsea’s strike force and the Blues hierarchy have identified Falcao as the player to fill it after the 26-year-old plundered 36 goals in his first season in La Liga, helping Atleti to victory in the Europa League in the process. If Falcao does move to Chelsea, one of his first appearances could be against Atletico in the European Super Cup.

Falcao was first brought to Chelsea’s attention by former manager Andre Villas-Boas, who worked with the player at Porto. While in Portugal Falcao also won the Europa League trophy and scored 72 goals in 82 games.
