Joe Cole intends to prove he can be a success at Liverpool following the end of his loan spell with Lille despite interest in the midfielder from West Ham United, Cole’s first professional club, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Cole has returned to the Anfield club after a year in France, helping Lille to third place in Ligue 1. But his future on Merseyside is not clear as Liverpool are currently without a manager or director of football, with Kenny Dalglish sacked earlier in May and Damien Comolli removed in April. The Telegraph notes that Lille would like to take Cole on loan for another season.

A permanent exit from Liverpool could be a possibility, particularly as West Ham, the club with which Cole began his career, were promoted back to the Premier League at the weekend. The Hammers defeated Blackpool 2-1 in the Championship play-off final and Sam Allardyce is reportedly keen to bring Cole back to Upton Park, but the newspaper adds that Cole himself feels he still has something to prove with Liverpool.
