Arsenal goalkeeper Szczesny hails Premier League quality

Thursday 24 May 2012

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has praised the Premier League for its quality, according to the club’s official website, insisting that the division is as strong as it has ever been. The Poland international added that the attacking power of the teams in the top flight is something to be proud of.

Szczesny said: “I think you just have to give credit to the attacking players in the Premier League - some of the players we have in this country are as good as there have ever been and that’s why you see teams scoring and conceding a lot of goals.

The 22-year-old pointed to the late-season success of Wigan Athletic as further evidence that not only is the Premier League an attack-minded division, but the sides who do play matches on the front foot are rewarded for it.

For their part, Arsenal ended the season with the joint-third best goal difference of the 20 teams in the Premier League. Level with Tottenham Hotspur, after 38 games Arsenal had a goal difference on +25, still some way behind the two highest totals of Manchester United with +56 and Manchester City with +64. The Premier League title was decided on goal difference after the two Manchester clubs finished level on points.
