Saturday 26 May 2012

Fulham attacker Clint Dempsey could look to leave the club this summer after admitting he wants to play in the Champions League, the Metro has reported, with Arsenal understood to be ready to grant the United States international his wish.

Dempsey has only 12 months remaining on his contract at Craven Cottage and stressed how appreciative he is of Fulham for giving him his Premier League opportunity. But the 29-year-old added that he would like to play at the highest level possible, including the Champions League.

He said: “I am grateful for everything Fulham have done for me…but the fact remains I want to play in the Champions League. I want to play at the highest level possible. I am always going to want to play in the Champions League.

Dempsey led Fulham’s goal scoring charts last season, netting a career-best 23 times in all competitions, and became the first ever United States player to score a Premier League hat-trick when he was on target three times in a 5-2 win over Newcastle United in January 2012. Dempsey moved to Fulham in 2007, having begun his professional career with Major League Soccer side New England Revolution.
