Van Persie tells Arsenal to spend if he is to stay

Sunday 27 May 2012

Arsenal’s star striker Robin van Persie has demanded that his club make further significant investment into improving the side, or risk losing him this summer, reports the Mirror.

According to the report, Dutch international van Persie is not interested in a new improved salary, even if it matches the reported £200,000 a week wages that Manchester City are willing to offer. Rather, the stumbling block appears to be that he does not believe the current reinforcements, including Lucas Podolski from Cologne, will be enough to help the north-London side to trophies, following a six year absence of silverware at the Emirates.

A source told the Mirror: “Arsenal know it's not about money. Even if they offered Van Persie what City can pay it would make no difference if he doesn't believe the club can challenge for trophies.”

Van Persie, who is set to play a prominent role in Holland’s Euro 2012 campaign in June, has had his most prolific season in front of goal for Arsenal, netting 46 goals in 48 appearanes in all competitions. He was in similarlarly good form for his country in their European Championship qualifying campaign, scoring six goals in six games.
