Midfielder Ahmedov wants Arsenal move

Monday 28 May 2012

Uzbekistan midfielder Odil Ahmedov is hopeful a move to Arsenal can be completed this summer after Arsene Wenger first considered signing the Anzhi Makhachkala player a year ago, the Daily Mail has reported.

Ahmedov, 24, is described by the newspaper as an “enforcer” in midfield, with the Mail also suggesting Wenger could turn to the player as an alternative to Yann M’Vila, the France international who has long been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

A move for Ahmedov was reportedly touted a year ago but Wenger decided against it, but the player himself remains open to a switch. He said: “I am happy at Anzhi but I want to try England or Spain. All the clubs in Spain and England are wonderful, but I would like, if I had the choice, to play for Arsenal.

Ahmedov can also play at centre-back and offers a strong physical presence on the pitch. He is also highly-rated at his club, having been named Anzhi’s Player of the Year in 2011, ahead of the more illustrious names of former Chelsea winger Yuri Zhirkov and ex-Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o.
