Chelsea agree deal to sign Hulk from Porto

Friday 01 June 2012

Chelsea have continued their early summer spending by agreeing a deal with nearly £40m to sign Brazil international Hulk from Porto, the Guaridan. The club has reportedly already spent over £30m on Lille midfielder Eden Hazard as well as bringing in Germany international Marko Marin.

The Guardian puts the figure agreed for Hulk at £38m, eclipsing the £32m to be shelled out for Hazard, who has announced he is moving to Stamford Bridge but which the club itself has yet to confirm. The newspaper adds that the club and the player’s representatives will now discuss personal terms, but they are not expected to be a stumbling block.

Porto had previously claimed Hulk had a release clause of €100m but the Guardian reveals the release fee to be more like €60m, or £48m. But Chelsea will still not have to meet the release clause, with Porto apparently resigned to accepting less for the striker.
