Man City willing to sell Dzeko to Bayern to make way for van Persie
Manchester City could begin an overhaul of their striking options by selling Edin Dzeko to Bayern Munich in an effort to make room for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie, the Daily Mirror has reported.
The Mirror adds that City are not only concerned with the number of players in their squad but also how they will adhere to UEFA’s new Financial Fair Play rules. With that in mind the money received for Dzeko would be used to help offset the cost of prising van Persie from the Emirates Stadium.
Dzeko has reportedly been told he is free to arrange a transfer away from the Etihad Stadium, with Bayern Munich understood to be the Bosnian’s first choice, and talks between the Bundesliga club and Dzeko’s agent have already taken place. A fee of £20m is quoted by the Mirror, substantially less than the £27m City paid Wolfsburg for Dzeko’s services in January 2011. Selling the 26-year-old would also free up around £5m per year in wages.
