Nani discussing new contract but hints at Man Utd departure
Manchester United winger Luis Nani could be on the verge of leaving Old Trafford despite being offered a new contract to stay at the club, the Daily Mail has reported.
Nani was quoted in an interview as suggesting his future lay outside English football, having spent five seasons at United. Nani joined the club in 2007 from Sporting Lisbon, but his comments to Portuguese television station RTP appear to indicate he will look to move elsewhere in the near future.
He said: “Football is not only about England or Spain. It is possible to enjoy success in other countries. I have fulfilled five seasons with United and obtained all the titles.” Nani also added that his agent had made United a counter-proposal to extending his contract. The Mail puts United’s original offer of a new deal at worth £130,000 per week to the winger, an increase on the £90,000 he is already paid.
Nani has made 194 appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, scoring 36 times, including 10 goals in 40 games last season as United were beaten to the Premier League title by Manchester City. In the same interview Nani admitted it was frustrating to lose out on the title to City, insisting that Roberto Mancini’s team had a lot of luck on the last day of the season.
