Sunday 03 June 2012

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted he would be interested in bringing Gylfi Sigurdsson to Anfield, reports Eurosport.

Sigurdsson spent the second half of last season on loan to Rodger’s previous club Swansea, and impressed in his time there, scoring seven goals in 18 league appearances.

Before Rodgers moved to Anfield, Swansea had just agreed a £6.8m fee with his parent club Hoffenheim, but no deal has been completed, and Rodgers admits he would pursue a move for the player, but would recommend the player to speak to the new Swansea manager, when they are appointed.

"Gylfi came to Swansea because I was there as manager and his scoring record was fantastic. I pushed the club to make an agreement [to sign Sigurdsson permanently] and they did that in terms of the fee - and agreed the salary. So I have said to Huw: 'I'm not going to do anything untoward. This is a guy you want, but it is down to Gylfi'... if he comes on the market I have to be interested."

22-year-old Sigurdsson would add further strength to a midfield that includes Jordan Henderson, Lucas Leiva, Steven Gerrard, Charlie Adam, Jonjo Shelvey, and Jay Spearing – Rodgers has also suggested that Joe Cole, returning from a loan spell in France with Lille, along with Alberto Aquilani, who spent last season at AC Milan.
