Cisse happy at Newcastle

Tuesday 05 June 2012

Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse has spoken of his desire to remain at St James Park and help the club secure Champions League football next season reports Sky Sports.

The 27-year-old made an impression in the latter stages of the Premier League season after signing from German club SC Freiburg, scoring 13 goals in just 14 appearances. He built up a strong partnership with his international counterpart Demba Ba which led to speculation the pair may leave in the summer, though Cisse has moved to play down speculation.

"I am very happy in Newcastle and I want to stay there for many years. We were close to a Champions League position so next season hopefully we will qualify for that and everyone will taste the Champions League. I am looking forward to next season."

Those words will sit well with the Toon army who have taken the player to their hearts after he was given the famous number 9 shirt when he joined, and has since lived up to the expectations of the shirt by scoring more in his first season than Alan Shearer managed.

Cisse has been linked in the media with moves away from the club, and was earlier last month considering legal action against newspapers linking him with a move to Real Madrid.
