Man Utd to move for Modric after Euro 2012
Manchester United will wait until after Euro 2012 to make an offer for Tottenham Hotspur’s Croatia international Luka Modric, the Daily Mail has reported.
The Mail puts the figure United will offer for Modric at £25m, substantially less than the £40m Chelsea offered for the playmaker a year ago, as reported then by the Daily Telegraph. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy resisted the interest from Stamford Bridge then but Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to test Levy’s resolve again 12 months later.
United’s reputed offer includes a further £5m dependent on appearances and trophies won while at the club, as well as a contact of £125,000 per week over four years for Modric. United can also offer the Croatian Champions League football which Tottenham cannot, after missing out on a place in the competition by virtue of Chelsea’s victory in the tournament.
Ordinarily Spurs’ fourth-place finish would have been enough for a play-off place but after finishing sixth in the table, Chelsea receive the last spot awarded to the Premier League.
