Arsenal consider selling van Persie this summer

Saturday 09 June 2012

Arsenal could move to end speculation over the future of Robin van Persie by selling the Netherlands striker this summer, the Daily Mirror has reported.

The newspaper adds that the Gunners will allow their captain to leave the club if he returns from Euro 2012 with the intention of forcing his departure from the club. The Mirror add that while Arsene Wenger wants to keep van Persie at the Emirates Stadium even if he does not sign a new contract, if van Persie agitates for a move Arsenal will sell rather than have a disgruntled player to contend with for 12 months.

Juventus are said to be van Persie’s only real option if he does move on from Arsenal, after the player’s father declared his son will not play for another English team, ruling out Manchester City and Manchester United, who had been interested in the forward.

Bob van Persie continued that it would not make sense for van Persie to join Barcelona, since the Spanish side already have Lionel Messi, while Real Madrid have to sell Gonzalo Higuain before they buy another striker.
