Lewandowski coy on Man Utd rumours

Saturday 09 June 2012

Robert Lewandowski has sidestepped rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United. Sky Sports reported that the striker wasn’t prepared to discuss any transfer speculation and wanted to focus on the European Championships, co-hosted by his home country.

The 23-year-old said: “I am so happy to score this goal in the opening match. But I'm not going to concentrate on these issues” reaffirming his Euro 2012 focus by adding: “Euro 2012 is the priority. I'm totally focused on the national team.”

As much as he may wish to avoid the topic, the talk of a high profile move to the Premier League will dominate his headlines this summer, especially after manager Franciszek Smuda was so adamant that Lewandowski would be heading to Manchester United after the tournament.

Lewandowski - coming into the tournament after a 22-goal league season – was left to rue missed chance in Poland’s opening game against Greece on Friday evening.

The game ended 1-1 and Lewandowski himself felt he could have done more, saying after the game: “I regret that we did not take more of our chances in the first half. It could have been two or 3-0 but we still have a positive attitude." Poland’s next game is on Tuesday against Russia, who comprehensively beat the Czech Republic 4-1 on Friday evening top go top of Group A.
