Kranjcar takes parting shot at Tottenham

Sunday 10 June 2012

After completing his move to Dynamo Kiev, former Tottenham midfielder Niko Kranjcar has now taken a parting shot at Spurs by insisting he is happy to move away from White Hart Lane, The Sun reports.

The midfielder started only nine league games last term and despite Spurs placing a £13m tag on Kranjcar, Kiev had a bid accepted for £6m. Kranjcar is currently at Euro 2012 preparing for Croatia’s opening game against the Republic of Ireland, but has still taken time to criticise the North London club. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp was keen to keep Kranjcar, but the chance to play regular football has swayed the Croatian to move to Kiev.

Kranjcar said: “I thought the price was too high that Spurs wanted for me last year and I thought then they would not come back for me... But I am happy. I am moving to a big club and can concentrate on Croatia’s plans for Euro 2012."

Despite his unhappiness at the lack of first team football the 27 year old had at Spurs, Kranjcar has paid tribute to Harry Redknapp, who took him from Portsmouth to Spurs. Kranjcar was disappointed with the lack of football he received at Spurs, stating: “Harry Redknapp has been a big part of my career – he is the one who brought me to Portsmouth and believed in me there. The last two (seasons) were disappointing because you want to play football. That’s what you grow up wanting to do”.
