Sunday 10 June 2012

Arsenal centre-back Johan Djourou is keen to leave the Emirates Stadium for a move across Europe to Serie A, according to his agent, The Daily Star reports.

The Swiss international started only 14 Premier League games last season and recently admitted he is keen to leave the club, should a good offer land at his feet. Djourou only signed a new contract with the Gunners in February, which committed him to the club until 2015, but is still looking to move away.

The 25 year old finds himself behind Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny in the pecking order with German international Per Mertesacker returning from injury for next season. Flavio Ferraria, the player’s agent, believes a move to Italy or Spain could be on the cards this summer with Djourou enthusiastic about the chance of playing for the big clubs in Serie A.

Ferraria said: “If he (Djourou) leaves the Premier League, he will play in Italy or Spain. I saw my client the other day and he was enthustiatic about both Napoli and Italy in general. So far, we have received an offer worth £10m. He wants to play for one of the top five Italian clubs”.
