Man Utd lining up PSV midfielder Strootman
PSV Eindhoven midfielder Kevin Strootman is being scouted by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, as he looks to strengthen his central midfield, The Mirror reports.
The 22 year old is part of the Holland squad currently participating in Euro 2012 and upon his return to PSV, his future could be uncertain after the signing of Holland captain Mark van Bommel. Strootman has been watched for a long time by United scouts and his combative style has been likened to former United captain Roy Keane.
With Darren Fletcher’s long-term future unclear due to his illness, Strootman could be recruited as a more defensive midfielder. United’s current signing policy is to recruit younger players and with Fletcher not expected to return any time soon, Strootman could move to Old Trafford. The Dutch international’s agent, Chiel Dekker, has confirmed that talks about his player will not resume until after Euro 2012, but United are expected to be favourites.
Meanwhile, United have already strengthened their midfield for the future by signing Crewe wonderkid Nick Powell in a £4m deal. The 18 year old has been on United’s radar for the last few weeks and it is understood £2m will be paid up front with the rest following on appearances. Powell will go back to Crewe on loan for next season to secure more first-team football.
