Man City price Johnson out of Sunderland move
Adam Johnson’s proposed move from Manchester City to Sunderland has broken down after the Premier League champions refused to sanction a loan deal or sell the England winger for less than £15m, according to the Daily Mirror.
Johnson, who moved to City from Middlesbrough in 2010, signed a new long-term contract with City just over six months ago and that is the reason the Etihad Stadium side are believed to be holding out for a substantial transfer fee. Johnson’s £70,000 per week wages are another hurdle preventing Sunderland pushing through with the deal.
The Mirror adds that City are against loaning out Johnson - or any of their fringe players - because they want to stop supplying players for other clubs who cannot afford to buy them. Last season Wayne Bridge spent the second half of the campaign on loan at the Stadium of Light, while Emmanuel Adebayor was with Tottenham Hotspur for a full year.
