Man Utd face competition from PSG for Tottenham’s Modric

Manchester United’s determination to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric will be tested by the oil-money of Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain, who the Daily Mirror report have outbid the Premier League side for the services of the Croatian playmaker.

PSG are said to have trumped United’s £22m offer by £8m and the newspaper adds the French club are willing to go higher if need be. United’s offer was rejected by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, who took a similar stance 12 months ago when it was Chelsea chasing Modric.

Carlo Ancelotti, the Coach of PSG, is however thought to have identified Modric as one of his top targets for the summer, with scouts from the club watching the 26-year-old in action during his country’s 3-1 win over the Republic of Ireland at Euro 2012 on Sunday. The Mirror adds that Modric is thought to favour a move to United rather than to France.
