Walcott set for Arsenal exit if van Persie leaves

Sunday 17 June 2012

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott could be set to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer, as he waits to see what happens with Robin van Persie’s contract, Metro reports.

The England international has just a year remaining on his contract, same as Van Persie, and with the Dutchman’s future undecided at the club, Walcott may want to move to a club with better prospects if the Gunners let the Dutchman go. Arsenal would reportedly accept an offer of £30m for the 28 year old striker and that would almost certainly see the end of Walcott’s career with Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has vowed to keep his best players at the club after seeing Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas leave last summer. Van Persie and Walcott are both at Euro 2012, but when their campaigns end and they return to England, Arsenal are expected to try and thrash out new deals with the pair. Reports have suggested that Juventus are the frontrunners for Van Persie and have sent legendary winger Pavel Nedved over to Euro 2012 to talk with Van Persie.

Walcott could follow his captain to Turin, but it seems more likely he will remain in England should he choose to leave the club. With his contract running out, Arsenal will either sell him this summer to receive a hefty price tag or face the daunting task of losing him on a free transfer.
