Man Utd linked with Tottenham duo

Sunday 17 June 2012

Manchester United are eyeing up a sensational double swoop of Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The Metro have reported that Sir Alex Ferguson is lining up bids to bring both Luka Modric and Gareth Bale to Old Trafford from White Hart Lane.

United’s interest in Modric is well documented and stretches back to last summer when the Croatian playmaker looked destined to leave North London, but a transfer saga with Chelsea seemed to trump any interest from the Manchester club. But the Blues’ interest seemes to have swayed and the Premier League runners up are hoping to capitalize on an unsettle dressing room after Harry Redknapp left Spurs this week.

The interest in Bale is relatively new but comes as no surprise; the Welshman has been a top target for Europe’s elite for a few seasons now after two impressive campaigns in which he scored 23 goals in 84 matches from the left hand side. The 22-year-old was also named PFA player of the year at the end of 2010/11season.

Should the two become available, United will no doubt face stiff opposition. Bale has been linked with a move to Barcelona for a number of years now, with bids between £35 million to £50 million being reported.
