Lampard shocked at Redknapp sacking

Sunday 17 June 2012

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has admitted that he is shocked by Tottenham’s decision to part company with former boss Harry Redknapp, The Sun reports.

Redknapp was controversially axed by the North London club, despite guiding them to a fourth placed finish. Spurs would have reached the Champions League had it not been for Lampard and his teammates winning the Champions League final in Munich. Lampard says that the decision was so cruel on his uncle and believes that Redknapp deserved much more than he got from Spurs.

Lampard said: “I feel really bad for Harry, especially as my biggest success in football turned out so unlucky for him. He deserved Champions League football. He and Spurs finished fourth. That’s why I’m still shell-shocked by what’s happened.”

Lampard has also praised the way Redknapp helped Spurs go from relegation-threatened to Champions League contenders and believes he will bounce back quickly. Former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has emerged as a candidate for the Spurs job and is hopeful of bouncing back into football after he was sacked from the Blues in February.
