Liverpool join race for Bedimo
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is preparing to compete with Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew, after both clubs declared their interest in Montpellier defender Henri Bedimo, according to Club Call.
The 28-year-old has impressed since his move from Lens last year, and played an important part in Montpellier’s surprise Ligue 1 title win. With Bedimo’s form he has attracted interest from Premier League clubs, with Liverpool and Newcastle leading the race.
New Liverpool manager Rodgers is looking to identify potential targets and it’s thought that a centre-back could be a possibility after the Merseyside club received a number of injuries in defence last season, and Jamie Carragher was increasingly used as a substitute as he nears the end of his Reds career.
Bedimo himself commented on speculation linking him with a move to England saying: "I'm going to play in England next season, I'll announce where next week."
With Liverpool’s rumoured interest fresh, there are thoughts that Newcastle United may lead the race to sign the player, having been linked with the Cameroon international for some time after legendary scout Graham Carr recommended the player.
Bedimo signed a four-year contract with Montpellier and though he is rumoured to prefer a move to England, a bid of £5million is thought to wanted by the French club.
