Juventus make Fernando Torres bid

By Gary-Jay Bourley

Monday 18 June 2012

Despite widespread reports that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic has told Fernando Torres he is to be the ‘main man’ next season, Juventus have tabled a £24 million bid in an attempt to lure the Spanish centre forward to Turin.

According to the report by Goal.com, the Serie A champions have turned their attention to Torres after deciding any bid for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani would possess too many obstacles.

Since signing from Liverpool in 2011 for a club record £50million, Torres has struggled to hold down a first team place at Stamford Bridge. It took him a number of months to get his first goal and had a similar goal scoring droughts last season, going 25 games without a goal in all competitions before scoring a brace against Leicester City in the F.A. Cup.

However the 28-year-old did get 11 goals and 17 assists in his 49 games last year, ranking amongst the highest overall in both categories at Chelsea for the season.

The Blues are left with the decision of whether they will sell their no.9 given the signings they have made this summer, seemingly bringing in a team that would create a style more suited to the likes of Torres.
