Gylfi Sigurdsson has been given until the end of June to decide where his future lies, after the Iceland midfielder’s club Hoffenheim pushed the 22-year-old to choose between Liverpool and Swansea City by June 30, the Daily Mail has reported.

Sigurdsson joined Swansea on loan in January and looked like making his stay in South Wales permanent in a £6.8m transfer, but the departure of manager Brendan Rodgers, who replaced Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool, muddied the waters. Rodgers was keen to bring Sigurdsson with him to Anfield but the player agreed to speak with Rodgers’ Swansea replacement, eventually confirmed as former Denmark midfielder Michael Laudrup.

Hoffenheim released a statement on their website that revealed Sigurdsson has been allowed to extend his summer break in an effort to finalise a move to the Premier League. He has until June 30, by which point he is expected to return to Germany for pre-season training. The Mail adds Sigurdsson is thought to favour a re-union with Rodgers at Anfield.
