Wolves confirm agreement to sign Sigurdarson

Tuesday 19 June 2012

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed they have reached an agreement to sign Lillestrom striker Bjorn Sigurdarson, beating several clubs, according to Sky Sports.

The 21-year-old Icelandic international has attracted interest in recent weeks from sides such as Everton, Reading and Championship side Reading. However, it appears Wolves have won the race to sign the highly-rated teen, who has started strongly in the Norwegian Tippeligaen, scoring seven goals in just 11 appearances.

New Wolves boss Stale Solbakken has gone back to his homeland to secure his first signing, with the Midland club reportedly agreeing a £2.4million move, and Sigurdarson can now discuss a four-year-contract with boss Solbakken telling the club website: "He is an exciting young prospect who has the quality to help us achieve our aims both in the short and long term."

There had been suggestions that a deal would not go ahead last week after the player took to his twitter account to say he had been left “mentally destroyed” after Lillestrom were apparently refusing to let him leave.

Sigurdarson will now feature in Lillestrom’s next three league games, before leaving the club after the 13th July.
