Reading near Pogrebnyak deal

Tuesday 19 June 2012

Pavel Pogrebnyak is on the verge of signing for Reading, in what is a big mark of intention from the newly promoted club.

Sky Sports are reporting that The Royals are set to get the striker on a four-year deal on a free transfer after Fulham failed to tie up a deal for the Russian striker.

After spending half of the last season on loan at Craven Cottage – where he scored 6 goals in 12 games – the 28-year-old was expected to sign a deal to keep him in West London. But it looks as though Reading have managed to persuade him to move to the Madejski Stadium.

Interest had been high in Pogrebnyak with talks that Aston Villa were hoping to pry him away from Fulham. But the striker was always keen on staying in the Premier League, he said:

“After three or four months, I feel that I have found my place in England and I want to play in this league” adding: “We couldn’t agree anything with Fulham so far but I hope everything will be all right. If I don’t play for Fulham I hope to find another.”

Reports suggest that Reading’s deal for the centre forward is in the region of £65,000 a week. The transfer can be completed in the next few weeks after Russia were knocked out of Euro 2012, where Pogrebnyak made one-substitute appearances for his country.
