Porto dismiss Rodriguez Man Utd link

Tuesday 19 June 2012

Porto are standing firm over Colombian youngster James Rodriguez with sources from the club making it clear there have been no bids and they are not expecting any just yet.

Sky Sports are reporting that the Portuguese side are prepared for offers from English Premier League clubs such as Manchester United but any speculation that a bid has already come in for winger is just that. They said:

“We have not received any formal offers for James Rodriguez, only rumours from the papers and this normal this time of year” adding “If something should arrive then we would study it and evaluate the situation, we do not know Manchester United and other English club have watched various games this year.”

Rodriguez has risen to prominence for the Portuguese champions in recent years scoring 14 times in 27 games for the club – he is only set to turn 21 next month.

The reports about the player suggest that Manchester United are looking into buying him after contract talks with Nani stalled earlier this week. It is unclear what, if any, price the Premier League runners-up would offer but the winger does have a £40 million release clause in his contract, which has four-years remaining.
