Manchester clubs set to miss out on Javi Martinez

Friday 22 June 2012

Javi Martinez could be about to break the collective hearts of Manchester United and Manchester City.

According to talkSPORT, the Atheltic Bilbao midfielder is on the verge of signing for Bayern Munich who seem to have fended off interest from the Premier League champions and runners-up.

It is thought a price in the region of £25 million will be enough to tempt Bilbao into selling the defensive minded player - a figure that Munich are more than capable of meeting - and although the two Manchester clubs have the resources to match such a bid, it is thought that Martinez is keen on a switch to Germany.

Since arriving at Bilbao from Osasuna B in 2006, the 23-year-old has featured over 200 times for the club, scoring 22 goals in the process. He is currently on international duty with Spain at Euro 2012 but finds his opportunities limited having only played 8 games since debuting in 2010.
