Man City to step up Van Persie chase

Saturday 23 June 2012

Arsenal are preparing themselves for a bid from Manchester City in the coming weeks for Robin Van Persie.

The Daily Mail are reporting that now the Dutch international is back from Euro 2012 they can start negotiations with the Gunners and the attacker.

Van Persie has recently refused to sign a new contract worth £130,000-per-week for three years, in addition to a £5 million loyalty bonus, which seems to leave the door open for a big money move away from the Emirates.

Roberto Mancini has publicly stated his desire to bring the 28-year-old to the Etihad and now it seems as only a matter of time before he makes his interest formal. However, Arsenal do seem to be reluctant to lose another player to Manchester City. Over the last three seasons they have seen four first team regulars leave for the blue half of Manchester.

But with just one year left on Van Persie’s contract, Arsene Wenger will know he is better to sell him now rather than lose their talisman on a bosman next summer. There is also reported interest from the continent with Juventus and Barcelona weighing up an offer.
