Borini never considered Liverpool move

Tuesday 26 June 2012

Fabio Borini has revealed he never considered signing for Liverpool after completing his permanent move to Roma, the Liverpool Echo has reported.

Borini had been co-owned by both Roma and Parma but his status was clarified over the weekend, as Roma, where the 21-year-old spent last season, wrapped up a deal for the other half of the player’s contract. Borini scored nine goals in 24 games last season.

The former Chelsea reserve team player had been linked with a move to Anfield due to the presence of Brendan Rodgers in the club’s dugout. Rodgers worked with Borini at Stamford Bridge and also had the forward on loan at Swansea City in the year the Welsh side were promoted to the Premier League. Swansea attempted to make the move permanent after Borini scored six goals in 12 games in the Championship but Borini instead favoured a return to Italy.

Borini said: “I am a Roma player. It is not my business that there is talk about whether I go to Liverpool or stay. It doesn’t matter to me, I am Roma.
