Monday 02 July 2012

Moroccan international Karim El Ahmadi has completed his move to Premier League side Aston Villa and becomes new manager Paul Lambert’s first signing.

The 27-year-old was an integral part of a Feyenoord side that came runners-up in the Dutch Eredivisie last season, but he has agreed a four-year contract at the Midlands side for an undisclosed fee, with the player excited at the prospect of Premier League football.

El Ahmadi told the club's website: 'I'm very excited about coming here to a massive club and I'm looking forward to playing here, I'm very happy that the manager wants me and that the club wants me and I'm looking forward to starting training again.”

Aston Villa were reportedly interested in the former FC Twente midfielder since Paul Lambert was appointed manager and no doubt he will be delighted with the capture of a player who has turned his back on Champions League football in order to sign for Villa.

"Last year was successful for me and for Feyenoord - we qualified for the Champions League - but sometimes in life you have to make choices” the 27-year-old said when quizzed on the transfer. El Ahmadi joins a long list of players including Yohan Cabaye who have turned their back on Champions League football in order to play in the Premier League.
