Friday 06 July 2012

Arsenal are considering who they could sign to replace captain Robin van Persie after the Netherlands international confirmed he would not be signing a new contract with the club, and the Daily Mail reports that Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski and Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic are at the top of Arsene Wenger’s wish list.

The Gunners’ scouting staff will meet at the club’s training ground early next week to further discuss potential targets and the Mail believes the names of both Lewandowski and Jovetic will feature prominently in the discussion. The newspaper adds that both players were watched by Arsenal scouts last season and will be under consideration to replace van Persie in the near future.

Lewandowski, 23, has been at Dortmund since 2010 following a transfer from Lech Poznan in his native Poland. A Poland international, Lewandowski has scored 39 goals in 46 Dortmund appearances, helping the club to two consecutive Bundesliga titles. Jovetic, meanwhile, is 22 and has been a Fiorentina player since 2008, netting 27 goals in 101 games while in Florence.
