Tottenham to sign Man Utd youngster Fryers

Friday 06 July 2012

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to move for Manchester United’s young defender Zeki Fryers, after the England youth international declined to sign a new contract with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, the Daily Mail has reported.

The Mail adds that United want £4m for the 19-year-old but Tottenham are only willing to pay half that amount, with a fee required because of Fryers’ tender age. Ferguson is said to be willing to let the matter go to a tribunal if necessary.

Fryers has played six appearances for United, two of which were starts in last season’s League Cup. Fryers also featured as a substitute in two Premier League games, the first a 4-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in which he replaced Patrice Evra just after the hour mark, the second a 5-0 victory against Wigan Athletic in which Fryers played the entirety of the second-half after replacing Jonny Evans at the break.
