Newcastle near to Bigirmana signing

Friday 06 July 2012

Newcastle are on the verge of signing 18-year-old starlet Gael Bigirmana.

According to Press Association Sport, the Magpies are closing in on an agreement for the Coventry City player with talks being in an advanced stage.

The story of this young player is one from the films. He arrived in the United Kingdom after escaping his war-torn home of Begundi with his father and two brothers. A year later at the tender age of 11 he asked the Coventry City Acadamy for a trial on his way to the shops and after showing his skills has managed a seven-year rise to success.

Last season he played 28 games for the senior side, 16 of which were starts in the Championship. His quality has attracted Alan Pardew and co. with a deal in the region of £1 million expected to be completed this summer – an emphasis on a sell-on-clause within the deal.

Buying the 18-year-old is part of Newcastle’s two main objectives. Whilst they are trying to build a squad that can continue to compete on the same level as last season and this coming year in the Europa League, they are also trying to develop a range of new generation stars as a matter of high priority.
