Newcastle and Fulham in the running for Liverpool’s Carroll

Newcastle United are one name on a long list of suitors for Andy Carroll if the England striker is allowed to leave Liverpool on loan by new manager Brendan Rodgers, with the Belfast Telegraph suggesting a £10m fee could take Carroll back to his former club.

Such a move would represent a hefty loss for Liverpool on a player they signed for £35m in January 2011, but the transfer could also allow the Reds to move for Newcastle’s Demba Ba, who has a £7m release clause in his contract that expires at the end of the month. The possibility of Alan Pardew moving for his former player is said to have increased with the transfer of FC Twente striker and Newcastle target Luuk de Jong to Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany.

Fulham also represent a possible destination for Carroll with the Cottagers said to be considering an offer for the striker that would see Clint Dempsey move in the opposite direction. The United States international is 29 and has a year remaining on his contract, meaning Martin Jol must either persuade Dempsey to sign a new one, sell him this summer or risk losing him for free next summer.
