Wednesday 11 July 2012

New Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has finally completed his coaching set-up at White Hart Lane, with the appointment of former Spurs player Steffen Freund, the club have announced.

The Former Spurs midfielder has agreed to join Villas-Boas’ coaching staff in the role of Assistant Head Coach – a move that will surely go down well with the Tottenham Hotspur fans as he was inducted into the clubs hall of fame in 2010, and is a regular figure watching from the stands at White Hart Lane.

Appearing for the North London club on 120 occasions, Freund becomes Villas-Boas’ first staff signing as he looks to start his Spurs career with a fresh approach, and having the 42-year-old as his right-hand man will offer useful knowledge of the club.

Freund retired in England, playing for Leicester City in 2004 – since then he has had a successful career in the German national team set-up. He was first appointed Assistant Head Coach of the Under-20 squad, and shortly after he was named as Berti Vogts’ assistant with Nigeria.

After completing his coaching badges the Euro 1996 winner took over management of the Under-16 German side, a year later working with the Under-17 squad he led them to a runners-up medal in the Euro 2011 Under-17 Championships.
